Just Do It!

It is no secret that I love to read.  Sometimes, though, I rely too much on books, when in reality I need to take action . . . to just do what I know I should do and not merely read about it.  A prime example is prayer.  I know I need to just do it.  Not only do I need to, but it is a great privilege I have, along with all of God's children.  He has spoken to us through His Word, and He wants to hear from us.  The Bible says He hears our prayers.  (Proverbs 15:29)  He also commands us to pray.  (Ephesians 6:18.)  In reading about Selina, Countess of Huntingdon, and a great promoter of the Gospel message of Christ crucified and the undeserved grace He offers to sinners, I am very much impressed by her actions to promote the preaching of Christ throughout England and Wales.  Among so many other things she did, she established a school specifically to teach men how to preach the Gospel, and then promptly sent these men out to preach in one of the many chapels she had built.  She was a great and influential woman, one mightily used by God to spread the good news of the Gospel far and wide.  I am inspired by her example, but I definitely don't have the means to build a school for would-be preachers.  So what can I do?  I can pray.  Actually, I have to pray.  Matt. 9:36-38 tells us of a time when Jesus was walking in the hills of Jerusalem, and looking down on the townspeople.  "When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  Then He said to His disciples, ""The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.""  So I can, no I must pray to God and ask him to bless the men who are in school studying to be preachers of the Gospel in churches across the globe, and also the women studying the Bible to share the truths found therein with those in need.  I am blessed to be intimately acquainted with both a seminary for the training up of men to be pastors and preachers, and also a Christian university that is training up young men and women to go into the world and work in their chosen field with a working knowledge of the Bible and a Biblical worldview of life, finances, relationships, and the need we all have of redemption in Christ.
