Our family is between houses right now. We are neither here nor there, and I'd like nothing more right now than to just be settled and done with it all. But that's just now the reality; so what do we do in the meantime? We make the most of where we are. Later today, we will have lunch with a dear neighbor we've known for many years. Tomorrow morning, I am meeting a friend at our new house for coffee, and just to get to know each other better. She lives very close to our new house, and will be a neighbor once we move in. So, what we do in this waiting time is what the Apostle Paul commanded us to do with our time (Eph. 5:15,16.)
This time is a good metaphor for anyone living in a time of transition, whether it is learning to live on your own, in a college dorm, or saving for a home purchase by living temporarily in a small apartment, or making the most of your singleness as you hope and pray for a spouse, living fully and joyfully with your spouse while waiting and praying to conceive, doing your job with excellence even as retirement looms in the very near future, etc. Seize the day, and don't just wait for tomorrow.
