Church History Through Individual Lives
If you ever read my previous blog, or if you know me, you know that I love to read Christian biographies . . . and why wouldn't I?? These are people with whom I will spend eternity. Some, like Katie Luther, are well known, and others, like Selina the Countess of Huntingdon, may be unheard of by you. Personal histories are a great and interesting way to learn about history, and biographies of Christians who lived centuries ago are both encouraging (because specific circumstances in history may have been different, but Christians have always been an unpopular, and even outcast, group), and biographies are also devotional because they remind you that everyone has something they can do for God; for example, Susannah Spurgeon, after her husband's death, was able to financially support a number of missionaries. Others were able to give refuge and safe passage to those whose very lives were in danger. I am not in a position to do either of those things, but I am in a perfect position to do other things . . . love my husband, teach our son to love and obey God and recognize His holiness, provide and pray for my family, and encourage fellow Christians in person and through my blog.
